steppin up
i am settling into this unit quite readily and enjoying it A LOT. it is so great to see all the baby steps i am taking towards becoming a competent full fledged OT. i am becoming very comfortable with the patients and i had the opportunity to sit down and have a one on one interview (something that rarely happens on this acute unit) with a patient. it was great! all those lectures on interview skills, active listening, therapeutic use of self, interactive reasoning, etc etc etc were mastered. it really is easy! i think mostly because i really care and enjoy it. hard to diguise that genuine interest and concern eh? so that was major. i am also spending more time in the common area just chatting and learning about baseball from the patients as well as go gather them for groups. it is GREAT fun! and.... drum roll please... today i have the exciting opportunity to lead (SOLO) a stress management group for some of the patients. this would ordinarily be something really hard, but i feel ready. so that is very exciting. i will have more to report on that later.
