stress management

so a report on my first group. i had observed my supervisor run the stress management group three times and so i felt very comfortable leading this group solo. after feeling confident to run the group i realized that half of the group had been to the stress management group the week prior and therefore i couldn't repeat the same stuff OR it wouldn't be therapeutic for them. WHAT TO DO? a moment to think on my feet, eh? this was definitely a learning experience as i felt that i managed to run a good group, however, i realized that i really need to work on stuffing more tools into my tool box as well as dipping into the pool of research to elicit evidence based practice interventions. as a future OT to be i need to make sure that every treatment session meets the needs of the patients. this week i learned that no matter the name/theme of the group, the group needs to be tailored to meet the needs of the participants.

anyhow, i think the group went well, however, i know that i need to and will improve my ability to 'think on my feet' and use that clinical reasoning. i need to do more research and find ways to meet the needs of the patients. i am also excited for the opportunity to create my own group in the near future. ideas are: physical activity, gardening, cooking... that's it so far... we will see.
